The pace of life in the western world is not designed in accordance with the organic rhythms of our bodies. We live in a sympathetic dominant culture… this means fight, flight and freeze are the primary experiences we have in our nervous systems.

When we are frozen in this mode of reality, healing can feel hard to access. Most of our time is spent in survival mode.

Survival physiology takes over the brain and body in a brilliant way for… just that, surviving. However, it leads us away from grounded embodiment and true healing.

The long term effects of living in survival mode can be seen in our culture through the epidemic of adrenal fatigue, exhaustion, burn out, anxiety, depression, chronic pain conditions, nervous system dysregulation and hormonal imbalances.

What can we do to shift out of living in survival mode and into living in accordance with our natural rhythms?

We can find ways to self-connect throughout the day, by pausing and finding a place of stillness, placing our hands gently onto our bodies, taking deep, slow, soft breaths, taking in the sun light, laying out beneath the stars, remembering the Truth of who we are.

In taking space to heal, even if just a few moments throughout a busy day, we can begin to find our way home to ourselves.
